TORONTO, Dec. 3 /CNW/ -- TORONTO, Dec. 3 /CNW/ - Equifax Canada Inc. today announced that Nova Scotians can immediately access their credit reports and credit scores online. This positive change is a result of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations' November decision, which allowed consumer reporting agencies to sell online credit reports.

The decision was a result of the current national undertaking to harmonize credit reporting disclosure rules and ongoing dialogue between Equifax and the province of Nova Scotia.

"Nova Scotians now have the same convenient access to their online Equifax credit reports and scores that consumers in the rest of Canada have enjoyed for many years," said Carol Gray, President of Equifax Canada. "We again congratulate Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations for enabling this important service in their province," she continued.

By accessing www.equifax.ca consumers, using a credit card, can instantly access their credit reports and scores after their identity has been verified. Consumers have the option of purchasing their online credit report, which costs $15.50 or their credit score and credit report combined, which costs $23.95. These are the same fees charged in all Canadian jurisdictions. Free credit reports will still be available to Nova Scotians, as they are in the other provinces, by mail, telephone, and in-person.

Nova Scotia previously prohibited the online sale of credit reports based on an interpretation of its Consumer Reporting Act - the Act governing the collection and distribution of personal information by consumer reporting agencies.
